HONORING WEST VIRGINIA’S FIRST GOVERNOR
Vandalia Bronze was commissioned by the state of of West Virginia to conceptualize, create & install a monumental bronze statue of Arthur Boreman who served as the state’s first governor from 1863 to 1869. The piece commemorates our statehood but also represent the strength and resilience of of The Mountain State.
We studied images of Gov. Boreman and it was only fitting that the the pose we captured was the pivotal moment just before Governor Boreman’s inauguration on June 20, 1863, marking the birth of West Virginia as its own state. We sketched our design first before moving to digital sculpting tool z-brush to bring the figure to life in 3 dimensions. We worked with Boswell Monuments to construct the granite base for the 8 ft figure.
